Free speech cat and mouse

Back in the olden days, around, say the late 2000’s, something new happened on the internet. A lot of people of my generation discovered Facebook. It was pretty wild for a while – trashy photos, slutty experiences and general outlandish views were shared – before we were hit with a double-whammy; we remembered that the internet is forever, and our parents signed up to Facebook and wanted to “friend” us.

In subsequent years, lone wolf conservatives found that their Facebook newsfeeds reflected the left-wing bias that exists in the MSM, education centres and inner-cities of Australia. We honed our skills debating multiple acquaintances at once, and we developed networks of friends and friends of friends who held similar conservative, libertarian and nationalist views.

One branch of my own network founded The XYZ, and since launching we have connected with multiple others. By the time of the 2016 Brexit vote and 2016 US Presidential election, these networks had combined across the generations, the world and with networks on other websites such as YouTube, /pol, Twitter and Reddit to form a formidable army ordinary people opposed to the left wing narrative which is heading our civilisation over a cliff.

We won the internet, and we won 2016.

Then the owners of social media realised that if they wanted our civilisation to really go over a cliff, they would have to do something about us.

I’m surprised they let us operate so freely before they started cracking down. Shadow bans, suspensions, and outright bans on Facebook are a part of daily life for conservative activists. Combined with the the Facebook data retention scandal, this has provided the impetus for conservative content creators to move to “alt-tech”.

The XYZ has over 10,000 followers on Facebook, something we have worked very hard to achieve. However, we are encouraging everybody who reads The XYZ to start setting up social media accounts on the following two platforms:

I don’t believe the death of Facebook is imminent, but its slide has started. I don’t know if Minds or Gab are going to be successful in the long term, but at the moment they appear to be the best alternatives to Facebook and Twitter respectively.

I don’t believe we will ever see another Facebook, in the same way that we will never see another Beatles. Facebook was created at a unique time and place. It was the market leader in social media, and then it became a giant life-sucking virus on the human condition. I expect social media to become more fragmented in the future, thus the need to work across multiple platforms.

Another thing to keep in mind is that for now platforms like Minds and Gab express a commitment to free speech, but don’t expect that to last. The eye of the MSM, the deep state and the globalists fixes very quickly on any platform, group or movement which threatens their control. If one of these platforms grows too big, rest assured that pressure will be applied, commitment to free speech will end.

I predict that conservative activists and globalists will continue to play a game of cat and mouse, with conservatives jumping from platform to platform until they are all shut down. The goal is to red pill enough people before then.

And this leads to my final point.

Free speech is a great idea. It mellows people, it moderates opposing sides, and fosters the stability which allows civilisation to flourish. But it is as fragile as the paper a constitution is written on. It exists only as long as the system set up by a constitution can remain effective.

Free speech was won at the barrel of a gun. Thus the right to free speech is reliant on those in power maintaining it. At the barrel of a gun. The flip side of this is obvious.

It is also open to abuse. The left used to promote free speech, but they exploited it to promote ideas which undermined civilisation. Now that they have set their civilisation-destroying plans into effect, they have no interest in free speech.

We will keep advocating free speech and using free speech to defend Western civilisation. If we lose the battle for free speech, we will simply find other ways to defend Western civilisation.Photo by jdlasica

  • Great article mate! I am more optimistic than you. I’ve listened to the owners or Gab and Minds and I don’t see those individuals selling out freedom of speech.

I may be wrong but it would be one hell of a shock and would destroy their sites, they know this because the only reason they are growing is due to their commitment to freedom of speech in all it’s kinds.

The rulers are more likely to go for domain registrars and outright smear campaigns.

Even if the only hope is to red pill enough people Kanye has just handed us a massive victory in that regards and every time they censor someone, people open their eyes.

Stay optimistic and everyone MUST USE ALT-TECH!!!!

Fight fire with fire, use the very tactics of the Marxists & Communist Left, against them.

From the mouth of a famous Marxist:

“We should support whatever the enemy opposes and oppose whatever the enemy supports.”

Free speech is foundational to democracy. More than democracy – it is foundational to any rightful government, not matter what form it may take. A rightful government is one that governs with the consent of the people governed. Consent is meaningless if it is not informed.

The irony of this article is palpable.

I remember when XYZ subscribed to free speech instead of just mouthing empty platitudes about it.

Unfortunately, that ethic was sacrificed to purge the platform of a few nuisance anti-Semites, like something straight out of an ADL playbook.

When I first started writing here, I was called a Nazi for being too critical of Israel. By the time XYZ abandoned free speech, I was being called a Jew for not being critical enough. Not once did I go crying to the thought police to protect me from the speech of others.

Free speech is a binary proposition. You either have it or you don’t. There is no middle ground; only varying shades of censorship.

I still have a lot of respect for the writers and community here, but when you sell out your principles to appease the normies so you can plug more sponsored books and Youtube videos, it’s probably time to dismount from that particular high horse.

XYZ, contributors and critical thinking readers in general, will valiantly defend “ free speech”……. that is, until their feelings get hurt.

For example, people who pretend to defend free speech until someone says something against their religion.

That is where free speech “has to end,” because feelings are more powerful.
      Principles come a poor second.
Monetisation of XYZ may be in danger, if too much free speech is allowed.
XYZ definitely has a sharp whiff of SJW odour when it comes to “free speech”.
Still, I guess it’s better than nothing.

It was leftie infiltrators who were purged (no doubt with some collateral damage). If you truly believe XYZ has abandoned free speech then that’s a victory for them. In retrospect, the owners should have considered disallowing the posting of images, rather than curbing language (as much as I like Mr. Hunters memes).

      • entropy

So XYZ believes in free speech for everyone except lefite infiltrators?

You’re right that there were other ways of curbing nuisance and vexatious behaviour without deploying an arbitrary banhammer, but there was no notification, no consultation, no warning and no review.

This is what censorship looks like.

  • Gab is a doxing corral, use it at your peril.

There was something about Minds on the DS (or its board). It wasn’t complementary.

The PTB are making a mistake suppressing free speech. As long as the discontents are posting on social media, they’re not attending protests…or worse! Just saying.
