Jihad Against the Disabled

1

Fourteen people have been confirmed dead and another dozen or so seriously injured after three gunmen attacked a disability centre in San Bernardino, California.

Two of the suspected gunmen (one a woman) were shot dead at the scene, and another has been detained by authorities.

One of the suspects has been identified as Syed Farook, who happens to be a devout Muslim. A man with the same name has been identified as an environmental health specialist for San Bernardino County – the department that had gathered that day at the disability centre for a Christmas party.

Will this act of terror be dismissed as ‘work place violence’ perpetrated by a disgruntled employee? It will be tempting for some to do so. Of course, the authorities have stated that they have yet to identify a possible motive.

However, what kind of motive could bring three gunmen together, armed with assault rifles and body armour and potentially explosive devices to attack a disability centre and officers of the local government at their Christmas party?

All the pieces of the puzzle are they. Are we willing to put them together?
