Viewer Poll: The Danes just banned the burka – should Australia ban it too?

Federation Square, Melbourne.

The Danish parliament passed a law this week banning full Islamic face coverings, following the lead of other European countries such as France, Austria, Belgium and Latvia. The ban appears popular in Great Britain too.

Something tells me this XYZ survey will prove quite popular here:

Denmark has just banned the burka - should Australia ban it too?

  • Yes (98%, 655 Votes)
  • No (2%, 11 Votes)

Why should the burka be banned? Arguments about whether it is a form of oppression against women, a hindrance to assimilation, or at odds with Australian values are moot. A lot of feminists secretly or not so secretly like the idea of wearing a potato sack to escape the so-called “male gaze”, and a lot of traditionalists would like to see a return to some kind of modesty; the last thing we want is Islam embedded in every segment of our society where it can exert disproportionate influence; and focusing on values misses the point that it is the people these values spring from which need defending.

Muslim women are forced to wear the burka for the same reason dogs piss on trees: To mark territory.

Seeing burkas in your local shopping centre tells you that Muslims live in your area. A lot of burkas means a lot of Muslims live in your neighbourhood. All burkas, and you are in Muslim territory.

Banning the burka is both deeply symbolic and a practical step in retaking territory from Islam. It sends a clear message to Islam and its slaves:

This is not your land, this is Australia, and you must go back.

Ladies wearing the Burqua in Australia and other western countries is always a point of discussion. That said, I think the greatest policy any western Government could have to prevent any segregation, offence caused, security concerns, and to encourage all to become part of one society. Is to refuse any access to immigrants for centre link until they have paid into the system for several years and if you commit crime or are a security threat you are deported.
Such a policy would make the Burqa issue irrelevant.

Just one little thing – they’re not Ladies. They are someone’s property – ie objects first and foremost. And they are muslims first and Australian last (or not at all).

I disagree with a ban on anything in regard to dress. Dress is a form of expresion, free expresion for all.
I don’t like it, but all to their own. Whether they are being forced to wear it or not is a completely different argument.
Stop immigration from backward cultures – yes. But once you get here, right or wrong – wear whatever the fuck you want.
Banning burkas does not stop 3rd world immigration – legal or not.
Stop the immigration – ALL – I say. But anyone let in by our dumb immigration laws has the same right of freedom of expression as any other Australian.

The burka is not an issue of dress. The major human communcations happen with the human face. Identification, voice to speak, ears to listen, facial expression, eye direction and movement. Seeing how someone speaks are further clues in communication too. These are all fundamental when humans communicate with humans. The burka seeks to prevent you communicating with them while they can still observe everything about you.

Its creepy for a person to hide the most identifiable and expressive part of the human body, it is usually done for the criminal to escape prosecution, we must not permit it in Australia.

I understand the reasons to ban the burqa, niqab, hijab, I really do and I would agree with all of them. However, I like to know where Muslims are. If I am surrounded by Muslims, I want to know that they are Muslims and that is not possible without the oppressive clothing. I don’t care if they are forced to wear such things and are oppressed…leave Islam if you feel oppressed. I just want to know where and who they are. So, I cannot really make up my mind when all the reasons for banning are explained against knowing who and where they are at all times.

That is a good point LM.

You’ll know cause of the bad smell, bushy beard and baggy pants with sandles. If they’re sent back we won’t have this problem.

Off topic, but has anyone else watched the Real Conversations? This conservative man sets up a table and a couple of chairs at a Uni or on the street, puts up a sign such as “I am pro-life…change my mind”, or “I am pro-gun…change my mind” among other topics. People sit down and try to change his mind. I love them, only watched a couple but I like the idea. I noticed that the young uni students are so used to people agreeing with them that they just can’t put forward a good argument and get a little lost because this conservative guy is so nice and polite and intelligent and can put his case so well. If you haven’t watched any, give a couple a go and see what you think.

Steven Crowder – he does a youtube show called Louder with Crowder.
Some of the discussions are very, very good 🙂

Can we ban SHY and Penny Dreadful and Bull Shitten along with the burka?

  • 9x19parabellum

Go one step better and ban the murder/rape cult of islam altogether.

    • Jai_Normosone

Correction: “The murder/rape/paedophila cult of Islam….”

        Duly noted.

It could be said that muslims are here illegally by deceit. This is Aus citizenship pledge: “I pledge my loyalty to Australia and its people, whose democratic beliefs I share, whose rights and liberties I respect, and whose laws I will uphold and obey.”

Doesn’t sound like koran, does it? So, if they pledged under oath, but don’t uphold the pledge – well, is this not obtaining citizenship by deception? Taqiya at its finest?

Good one mate! On a side note, you should change your name. Might attract many moslems with sexual emergencies.
